Scan the barcode. See what the lab found.

Ekky finds published tests of the product in your hand, from independent testing organisations such as Stiftung Warentest, Öko-Test and Which?, and turns the findings into one clear score. If nobody has tested it yet, Ekky says so instead of guessing.

01 / How it works

From the shelf to an answer in seconds.

Point the camera at the barcode. Ekky does the reading so you don’t have to dig through test archives in three languages.

  1. STEP 01

    Scan the barcode

The barcode is read on your phone. No photo is taken or sent anywhere. You can also type the number.

  2. STEP 02

    Ekky finds the lab test

Ekky searches the sites of independent testers for a published report on this exact product.

  3. STEP 03

    One score, with reasons

You see a score out of 10, every finding behind it and a link to the original report.

02 / The score

A score you can check by hand.

Ekky doesn’t invent grades. It reads the latest published report and applies one public formula. Nothing else moves the number: not brands, not reviews, not an AI model.

  • 8.0
Starting pointEvery product with a published lab report starts here.
  • +1.0
Better than requiredFor each finding where the product beats the standard.
  • −1.5
Minor non-complianceFor each small deviation the lab reported.
  • −3.0
Major non-complianceFor each serious deviation the lab reported.
  • ≤2.0
Critical findingOne is enough: the score can’t go above 2.0. The result always stays between 0 and 10.

Not tested yetNo published report found. Ekky shows no score rather than a guess.

Only the most recent published report counts. Reports that Ekky finds automatically are marked “Found automatically, not checked by an editor” until someone on our side has checked them.

03 / Principles

What Ekky will never do.

  • Run its own tests Ekky reports what independent labs published. We don’t test or grade products ourselves.
  • Score the ingredient list No formulas based on the label or the nutrition table. Only lab findings move the score.
  • Let an AI decide AI helps find and read reports. It never sets a score, the formula does.
  • Sell a better rating Brands can’t pay for a score or a placement, and there are no ads in the app.
04 / Reviews

Reviews from people who held it.

Next to the lab result you’ll find what other shoppers think. Kept honest, and kept apart.

  • Scan first. You can review a product you scanned with the camera in the last 30 days.
  • Separate from the score. Stars from shoppers never change the lab score.
  • Moderated. Reviews are checked before they appear, and anyone can report one.
Marta

Neutral taste, good for frying. I switched after reading the report, the price is the same.

The bottle leaks around the cap. Had to wipe the shelf every time.
