Why does a product say “Not tested yet”?
Ekky only shows a score when an independent testing organisation has published a lab report on that product. Most products have never been tested, and Ekky would rather tell you that than guess.
Ekky checks again for new reports over time, so a product can get a score later.
How is the score calculated?
From the latest published report, with one public formula: start at 8.0, add 1.0 for each finding better than required, take off 1.5 for each minor and 3.0 for each major non-compliance. Any critical finding caps the score at 2.0. The result stays between 0 and 10. See the score.
What does “Found automatically, not checked by an editor” mean?
Ekky found and read this report on its own, and nobody on our side has checked it yet. The findings link to the original report, so you can always read it yourself. If something looks wrong, email us.
Is Ekky connected to Stiftung Warentest, Which? or the other testers?
No. Ekky is independent and isn’t affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any testing organisation. We name them only to show where a report was published, and link to the original.
Why can’t I write a review?
To keep reviews honest, you can review a product you scanned with the camera in the last 30 days. Typing the barcode doesn’t count. With Ekky Plus you can review without a scan.
Each person can write one review per product.
A review breaks the rules. What can I do?
Report it in the app. Reported reviews are checked by a person. You can also block someone so you no longer see their reviews.
The barcode won’t scan
Hold the phone 10 to 20 cm away, keep the barcode flat and inside the frame, and move to better light if it’s dark. With curved or shiny packaging, tilting the phone a little helps. You can also tap the keyboard button and type the number under the barcode.
The product name or picture is wrong
Product names, brands and pictures come from Open Food Facts, an open database anyone can improve. You can correct the product there, or email us the barcode and what’s wrong.
How do I cancel Ekky Plus?
Subscriptions are handled by Google Play. Open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Ekky → Cancel subscription. Plus stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
Refunds follow Google Play’s refund policy.
I got a new phone. Where is my Plus?
Ekky Plus belongs to your Ekky account. Sign in with the same Google account you used before and it will be there.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Profile → Delete account. Without the app, email us. Everything about what is deleted and kept is on the account deletion page.
Is Ekky medical or dietary advice?
No. Ekky tells you what a lab found in a test. It doesn’t tell you what is healthy for you. For questions about allergies, diets or health, ask a doctor or another qualified professional.
